You may wish to create an event to honour former serving personnel in your area.
Begin by locating a cemetery in your area where veterans are buried. The Commonwealth War Grave Commission website – “CWGC Cemeteries Canada” lists the cemeteries in Canada that contain the remains of the men and women who died while in uniform during the two World Wars. There are some 18,000 graves in this category. Another 225,000 veterans are buried in graves in Canada that are administered by Veterans Affairs Canada. These veterans rest in over over 6,000 cemeteries in Canada. Some contain only one grave while others have several thousand, so there are ample possibilities for you to honour our veterans in this way. You may discover, when you begin your search that your nearest cemetery has a section called “The Field of Honour.” This is the section that contains a concentration of veteran’s graves.
